SUMMARY:Discussion Dinner: Global Data Centre Ecosystem\, November 2025
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of 11th November in Mayfair\, London\, in partnership with Vault Partners\, Spectrum curated a group of board-level leaders from across the European data centre supply chain for a peer group discussion over dinner\, and the opportunity to network. \nThe two core topics explored on the night were: \nPowering the data centre \nThe energy consumption of data centres is substantial\, as power and cooling requirements are significant. \nWe explored the primary implications for the industry\, including: \n\nEnergy supply and cost as a factor in new data centre locations\nThe role of batteries\, and of alternative sources of energy (which can’t feed into the grid)\nThe pros and cons of nuclear power as a solution\nEnergy regulation\nThe ageing electricity grid network\nThe perception of data centres by politicians and the public\, and the need for the industry to collectively present and justify its case\n\nDeployment of capital \nThe data centre sector is attracting enormous investment. This segment of the discussion focused on: \n\nThe difference between investing in infrastructure (7–8-year payback) and investing in Neoclouds\, and GPUs (2–3-year return)\nThe expectation that the total addressable market for AI will expand\nThe key question of time to adoption: How quickly are enterprises going to use AI at scale?\nAnd what are the use cases? i.e. where is the revenue coming from to sustain the investment in CAPEX?\nThe circulation of funding i.e. the industry supporting each other with capital\nData centre tenant renewal risk\nCredit risk\nGeopolitical risk\n\n  \nThis event was co-hosted by Daniel Osmer\, Managing Partner\, Spectrum Executive Search and Jeremy Sewell\, Vault Partners. \nOur 19 guests were board-level representatives from: Kevlinx Data Centres\, Macquarie Group\, Polar Data Centres\, Yuso\, CloudHQ\, Ingenium LA\, JLL\, Gulf Data Centre Association\, Digital Gravity Infrastructure Partners\, Ark Data Centres\, Digital Bridge\, Deutsche Bank\, CoreWeave\, H.I.G. Capital\, HPE\, and Stellanor Data Centres.

DESCRIPTION:For many high-growth enterprises\, there’s nowhere better to start and grow than the UK\, and nowhere better to expand and raise later-stage funding than the United States.  The US offers the promise of massive commercial opportunities and plentiful venture and growth capital.  However\, doing business and raising money in an unfamiliar\, highly competitive environment requires thoughtful planning and clinical execution. \nIn this facilitated Q&A session over dinner\, we will discuss best practices for navigating the logistical aspects of launching and operating a UK business in the States and setting and meeting expectations for US later-stage funding. \nWe’ll address questions\, such as: \nWhen should I consider establishing US operations? \nWhen should I look to raise money from US VCs? \nDo I need a US company to raise money from US VCs? \nWhen do I need to create a US company? \nWhere is the best place to set up in the States? \nHow long does US set-up take and how much does it cost? \nHow do I sell/pitch in the US as a British/non-US founder? \nHow is hiring different in the US\, and what’s the optimal US team? \nDoes everyone really sue each other all the time in the US? \nAre there government resources to assist with US expansion? \nThe discussion will be led by Daniel Glazer\, who leads the US Expansion group and London office at Silicon Valley-headquartered Wilson Sonsini.  Wilson Sonsini represents more tech companies on their venture financings\, M&A transactions\, and IPOs than any other law firm globally.  The firm is a Silicon Valley “anchor tenant\,” having taken public Apple\, Doordash\, Google\, Linkedin\, Lyft\, Netflix\, Palantir\, Roblox\, Square\, Twitter\, and many others.  Wilson Sonsini London is a US and dual-qualified UK/US team that supports UK/EU tech and life sciences companies through their US life cycle – US launch and scaling\, US fundraising\, and US M&A/IPO exit.
