Global leadership team for new mobile consortium

The LiMo Foundation was founded as an industry consortium in January 2007 by Motorola; NEC; NTT DoCoMo; Panasonic Mobile Communications; Samsung and Vodafone.

Incorporated in Delaware, USA, and headquartered in London, England, The Foundation’s purpose was to create the first truly open, hardware independent, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices.

Under the direction of Executive Director Morgan Gillis, Spectrum was retained to build the global leadership team from scratch, including the five direct reports to the Executive Director:

  • Strategic Technology Director
  • Business Development Director
  • Legal Director
  • Programmes Director
  • Finance & Operations Director

On 1st January, 2012, The LiMo Foundation was renamed Tizen Association.

Today, Tizen is an open-source, standards-based software platform supported by leading mobile operators, device manufacturers, and silicon suppliers for multiple device categories such as smartphones, tablets, netbooks, in-vehicle infotainment devices and smart TVs.

I've known Daniel and Spectrum for a number of years as an active executive search boutique in the global mobile sector, and have first hand experience of their services: as they tendered for, won and successfully delivered a project to recruit an international executive management team based in London.

Morgan Gillis, Executive Director, LiMo Foundation

We were delighted to win a competitive ‘pitch’ process to recruit the global leadership team of The LiMo Foundation, and to then successfully hire the five direct reports to the Executive Director.

Building a leadership team from scratch for a new ‘challenger’ organisation is incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. LiMo set itself an incredibly tough challenge: to disrupt an extraordinarily complex and globally competitive market for mobile handset software.

Looking back on the project over five years later, and despite enormous change to the market and The Foundation, I am delighted to see that some of the original leadership team remain with the renamed business.
