Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President, Products, for private equity-backed global leader in mobile messaging

Acision delivers more than half of the world’s SMS revenues, and is the world’s leading messaging company. It provides communication solutions for over 300 network operators and service providers globally, serving over 1.5 billion consumers in 135 countries.

Spectrum was initially retained by Executive Vice President, Human Resources, Janet Turner, to recruit a Chief Operating Officer. This search was successfully conducted, and within six weeks of his appointment as COO, the candidate had been promoted to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Spectrum was subsequently retained to recruit an Executive Vice President (EVP), Products.

Both searches focussed upon the wireless infrastructure market and were global in nature: the candidate long lists presented by Spectrum for both roles comprised a geographically dispersed group of executives from a number of nationalities.

The candidate selected for the EVP, Products role was a Dutch national primarily based in the US, and would be located from Acision’s Netherlands office, whilst the appointed CEO was a Swedish national who would relocate from Stockholm to Acision’s global headquarters in Theale in the UK.

The market for wireless infrastructure is truly global, and these two searches for Acision were fascinating as they took us into multiple territories in our search for the best candidates. As a private equity-backed organisation, Acision’s strategic challenge was to maintain its global market hegemony in the mobile messaging market, whilst creating additional value by growing significant new revenue streams as the SMS market continued to mature. The EVP, Products and the CEO would be instrumental in beginning this journey in earnest.
