Hello, I am Bernard Buckley, Executive Coach & Board HR Advisor at Spectrum.
I am a highly experienced coach of board-level executives across all functional disciplines (and those who aspire to reach that level), and a strategic HR advisor to company boards at times of fundamental change.
Prior to becoming a coach, I pursued an extensive senior executive and interim HR career across multiple sectors – most notably at The London Stock Exchange, Cazenove, United News & Media, and Cable & Wireless, where I was a main board director. The key people element of M&A, and disposals, have been a significant feature of my HR career.
Today, my focus is:
- As a coach, on the individual executive. My coaching embraces personal and career development, as well as acting as quasi agent, and confidant. Proactive, and extremely well-networked, liked and regarded, I provide access to my network for the benefit of the executives I coach. At its most effective, coaching requires ‘tough conversations’ in order to create real value for the individual; a challenging aspect of the coaching role that I do not shy away from.
- As a strategic HR advisor to company boards involved in fundamental change, often involving transformational M&A activity. I advise CEOs and Chairmen on the key strategic people issues associated with merger, acquisition and disposal activity. My approach addresses both legal compliance and best practice, as well as the – often critical – subtleties of culture and communication, and is framed and led by the strategic commercial objectives of the business.
