What is culture and why is it so important? Netflix’s famous document provides immensely valuable learning

When we take a brief from a client they will talk most about their “culture”, and when we then speak with a prospective candidate, they will usually ask “what is the company culture” ?

But, culture has almost become a buzzword that means different things to different people, or perhaps nothing meaningful at all…

Netflix’s famous culture document is a 125 slide beast, but it’s well worth a scan through to remind yourself what culture really is (or, at least, what it should be) and why it’s so important.

Of course, don’t copy-and-paste it to create your own company values! Netflix’s values are Netflix’s values alone, and you don’t have to agree with them all. And if you don’t agree with them, don’t join Netflix – instead find a company whose culture you feel more comfortable with.
